Tribute to the Blackwater 100 Post Race Report: July 8, 2010
First a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came out and spent their holiday weekend with us. We kicked off on Friday at high noon. We had some good fun on Friday afternoon with our Bike/ Quad show. The winners of the bike show were as follows Best of Show Bike- Dalton Houser, Best of Show Quad - Hunter Owens. Worst of show bike was Cody Fiest and worst of show quad was Anita True. After that we had some fun with poker, then our auction we had a lot of stuff to auction off this year. Thanks to all of our sponsors who stepped up and donated for stuff to auction off this year. Everyone loves the poker and the auction and it will definitely be part of the tribute every year,
This weekend was record setting for our spectators. We had an awesome crowd there this weekend. The Mud Fleas were coming out of no where! Saturday morning we kicked off the bikes with our Pee Wee training class and Gavin Naylor took home the win. Then we let off the Pee Wee Bike lines and Bryce Merrill took home the wood for that race. Next off the line were the Youth Bikes and Bryhan Sims took the win in that category with no problem! Bryhan led the whole race to come home with the victory and the wood! Then the Adult Bikes set off to complete the 100 miles in tribute to the Blackwater 100.
There was some competition in this category for sure. Doug Blackwell came out to compete and compete is what he did. Doug took the victory in the Adult Bikes but not with out having to fight for it. Chris Meadows came barreling past him to claim his victory as the first MOVHS Tribute to the Balckwater champion, but Chris fell short and had a minor accident when his brakes decided to lock up on him which caused a brake malfunction and Chris had a crash. Colton Anderson came out with a 2nd place victory finishing 38 seconds behind Doug Blackwell, and Rick McAtee finished 1 minute and 59 seconds behind Colton Anderson with a 3rd place victory. There were only eight adult bike riders who completed 100 miles. Way to go riders!
Saturday evening we had 2 bands Rezzin and Liecus. The spectators really enjoyed these bands as it gave them some time to mingle and relax. We also had a fireworks display kick off right before Liecus hit the stage.
Sunday morning quads started rolling in bright and early. Mini Quad D was first off the line with Dustin Hall taking home the victory in this category and his cousin Ryan Parker right on his bumper. Next off the line were the Mini Quads. Scrappy Perrine got the hole shot in that class and went into the woods first. Hunter Owens led this race until the 7th lap when he unfortunately broke a swingarm which put him out of the race. The Mini Quad class soon felt the rath of Sam Cogar coming through the woods full blast. He wanted this victory and and victory is what he got! Clayton Bee came in second and Scrappy Perrine in 3rd.
Next off the line were the youth quads. Brad Pearson led the first two laps and then his good friend Torren Johnson took the lead on lap three. Torren took the victory in the youth quad category and Tyler McDaniel took 2nd, and Brad Pearson 3rd. Then the Adult Quads started lining up. Trying to pick the best location on the lineup for the hole shot. The best place to have been in this race was out front!
We then let the adult quads off to try and claim their victory to their first ride in the MOVHS Tribute to the Blackwater 100. Scott Owens led the first three laps, unfortunately the heat and dehydration got the best of him or he would have been up there battling for the overall win. James Green took the lead on lap 4. James led every lap up until the last lap, lap 10. Tyler Gilbert claimed the victory as the first quad to finish 100 miles in the 1st annual MOVHS Tribute to the Blackwater 100. Ed Atwell from PA finished 2nd overall and James Green 3rd overall. There were only 3 quad riders to complete the 100 miles and that was Tyler Gilbert, Ed Atwell, and James Green. Helmets off to these men.
Everyone that competed in this race were real racers. We heard from MANY racers that came to spectate and not race, 100 miles scared them and they didn't even attempt it. Well what a shame! This race really seperated the real racers from the casual racers! Anyone who attempted it was a real racer. I am sure there will be more racer entries next year and definitely more spectators and Mud Fleas!
After the race I have had so many calls and emails asking if we were going to do this again next year and thanking me for all of my hard work. I had so many spectators and racers come up to me and say there isn't any where else that we would rather ride than with MOVHS, but we have too much invested in another series this year for the championship but next year we will be on board with you! You give us everything that we ask for, plus you have the best facilities and tracks! Your a good person and that is why MOVHS will be successful for many years to come. That is what makes it all worth it!
Sincererly,
Your True Friend - Rick Sams
